I found this very disappointing. It was boring and I could have done a better job myself. I kept waiting for it to get better, but it never did.

Being a Yogini, I enjoy the many facets of Yoga, and this is the newest facet. Yoga Nidra basically relaxes your brain, slows it down, until you are in a sleeping state: but still awake! You can dream and still be awake, experiencing the most interesting of mind-states. It's like being drugged but totally in control, and with only positive side effects.
After a session, the body feels so relaxed (and tingly, you can feel the endorphins), the brain drained of worry, and you have a new perspective on the world. It's recommended by the CD and myself to be in the corpse pose, another word for laying down.. so don't think you have to be a yogi and know sanskrit to understand! This is a very simple CD, all you have to do is listen to the utterly soothing voice, listen to all of it and do as you're directed.. which is simple. He'll tell you to notice parts of your body, and each time he'll take more time between body parts - slowly lulling you into a waking sleep.
It's common to have hallucinations/dreams during this time, as well as body twitches, snoring (if you regularly snore during sleep), sleep talking, etc... so don't feel like you're going crazy. It's also common to have a deep euphoria, sudden change into happiness from whatever emotion you're in, and also it's common to have deep muscle relaxation.
Try not to move during the session and it will be more effective. And after the session, take it easy, move your limbs little by little.. don't jump out of your laying-down position.
I highly recommend this CD for anyone with stress. I have a pain disorder and find that during the sessions- my pain is lowered and my comfort level goes up. I have "made" family members use this CD, and now I need to buy them copies - as they LOVE it and I have to steal it back from them when they're not looking!! Even my father!! I would also recommend this for people with anxiety disorders, depression, fear disorders, etc.. it's as calming as taking a sedative (I'd know.. lol)
WONDER-FULL! Get it now!!

Not what I expected. The author draws you into focusing on various body parts and breathing techniques which is a little dull by itself. However if you can bring yourself to concentrate it can be quite relaxing. Unfortunately the disk is copy protected.

This CD is recorded by a true master. It gently and capably leads one into deeper states of consciousness. It is a meditation everyone can do and benefit from, no matter ones physical and mental condition. My ailing mother loves it. She asks me to play it for her almost every night. It relaxes her and helps her experience a deeper reality, despite her aliments. She cannot remember many things but she does remember to ask me to play her this CD. I have been meditating for many years and I find it profoundly relaxing and quieting...

As an instructor of meditation, I found this practice profound in experience unlike any other. It not only relaxes and rests the body through deep sleep, it allows one to move beyond mental confines into a place of perfect peace and awareness of the vast and infinite of the unseen dimension. Words are inadequate to express the experience. I use Yoga Nidra for bodily rest as well as developing a deeper spiritual awareness. On a recent cross country (USA) drive of some 2,300 miles, I replaced normal sleeping with Yoga Nidra (deep sleep) and made the trip in 51 elapsed hours. For a deeper spiritual awareness, Yoga Nidra has brought me to the verge of sammadhi and the precipice of the vast unmanifest realm. It has also enhanced my normal meditative practice by moving me into the peaceful state more quickly and consistently.
Yoga Nidra does not require adherence to any particular religion, therefore, it is applicaple to any spiritual aspirant who seeks a deeper relationship with the Divine Creative Intelligence.
